Facial toner is one of the most frequently misunderstood steps in skincare. For years, it was associated with harsh, drying formulas and a tight feeling on the skin, especially in oily skin types. Modern formulations are designed with a different purpose in mind.

A well-designed toner helps balance the skin, gently refine its surface and prepare it for the active products that follow.

In the SOFI approach, toner is not an additional step. It acts as a transition between cleansing and serum, selected according to the skin’s condition rather than trends.

What Does a Facial Toner Really Do?

A properly formulated facial toner removes residual impurities that may remain after cleansing, gently renews the outer layer of the skin and contributes to a more even texture. Depending on its composition, it may help regulate sebum or restore hydration. At the same time, it allows the serum applied afterward to perform more evenly and effectively.

A toner does not close pores or alter their size. Its role is not to replace exfoliation or serum, but to stabilize the skin’s surface and restore balance.

Enzyme and AHA Exfoliation: Gentle but Effective Renewal

AHA acids work by loosening the bonds between dead skin cells on the surface, allowing them to shed more easily and leaving the skin smoother. Enzyme exfoliation works differently. Enzymes, such as those derived from papaya, selectively break down proteins in dead skin cells without acting intensively on deeper layers. For this reason, this type of renewal is often better tolerated and suitable for regular use.

SOFI toners use mild concentrations and carefully balanced combinations of ingredients. The goal is not intensive peeling, but gradual improvement of texture and overall skin balance.

SOFI Facial Toner – Papaya + B3

This toner is intended for combination and oily skin prone to congestion and uneven texture. Papaya extract provides enzymatic exfoliation, while mild AHA acids complement the effect through gentle renewal of the skin’s outer layer. Niacinamide contributes to sebum regulation and a more even-looking complexion, while witch hazel helps soothe the skin.

SOFI Facial Toner – Rose + AHA

Normal and dry skin require a balance between renewal and hydration. Rose water and immortelle hydrolate soothe and refresh the skin, while aloe vera and panthenol help restore moisture and elasticity. Mild AHA acids renew the surface layer without disrupting the skin barrier.

How to Incorporate a SOFI Toner Into Your Routine

After cleansing, apply toner to dry skin and allow it to absorb. In the morning routine, it can be combined with the SOFI Vitamin C Serum for enhanced radiance or with the Hydrating Serum with haberlea complex for additional barrier support. Follow with a moisturizer suited to your skin’s condition, and finish with sun protection.

In the evening, toner prepares the skin for renewal. It can be followed by a richer texture, such as the SOFI almond + aloe vera face cream, or primrose + hyaluronic acid face cream.

How Often Should You Use a Toner?

SOFI toners are formulated for regular use due to their balanced compositions. If the skin is not accustomed to exfoliation, gradual introduction is recommended. Sun protection remains an essential part of the routine when using AHA-based products.
