There are cities made for lists and guides – and then there are those you’re meant to feel without a plan. Novi Sad is one of them.
It’s the city we call home, the one that has taught us that not everything needs to happen at once. It’s given us a lot – mostly time. That’s why we love it. No noise. No pressure. Just a rhythm where everything falls into place: a cup of coffee, a stroll, a conversation.
If Novi Sad is a new stop for you – whether for the weekend, a day, or a first encounter – here’s our recommendation for a laid-back day through places we love and often visit. No rush, no heavy planning – just simple recommendations that help you experience the city at its own pace. From a favorite coffee and croissant to art and a Vojvodinian lunch, this is our answer to the question what to see in Novi Sad when you want the day to have a scent, a taste, and meaning.
Where locals drink coffee
The day starts with coffee. At Izlet, right on the edge of Danube Park – filter, espresso, or freshly squeezed apple juice, with a croissant that’s worth the stop. If you manage to snag a window seat, time has a way of slipping by.
The Gallery of Matica Srpska
Art that speaks for itself. From 18th-century icons and portraits, through 19th-century romantic and realist paintings, to 20th-century modernist works – the exhibition takes you on a journey through time and the expressions that shaped Serbian culture. This is one of the places in Novi Sad we gladly suggest, even for those who aren’t art experts – the atmosphere speaks for itself.
The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection
Just a few minutes away is another collection – with a different pace. Serbian modern art, thoughtfully displayed in natural light, with a tranquility that lingers.
Lunch at Veliki
A restaurant housed in a historic building in the heart of the city, offering a menu rooted in Vojvodinian tradition, local ingredients, and a modern twist. The food is simple, thoughtfully prepared, without any frills. The interior reflects the same spirit – authentic and carefully considered down to the details. And, don’t skip the lenja pita – a simple, comforting pie.
Final stop: the SOFI flagship store
To wrap up your day, if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by. Our flagship store is located in the house of Marija Trandafil, one of Serbia’s most generous philanthropists, right in the heart of Novi Sad’s old town. The space is inspired by the delicate imperfections of handmade objects and a slower, more mindful approach to care.
The interior is crafted using a masonry technique once used for traditional tiled stoves – a tribute to our Vojvodinian heritage, where every detail tells a story of craftsmanship and handwork. In-store, you can sample our solid soaps, deodorants, and face creams. You might leave with something, but even if you don’t, the experience lingers – the quiet, the texture, and the scent.
You can also read what others have written about our space – Jutarnji list captured the atmosphere that celebrates the authenticity and beauty of handmade objects.
